A whitepaper has been published by SEO Effect, which talks about the effects of Google +1 on organic rankings, impressions and traffic.

Acknowledging the flaws and limitations of the study, SEO Effect said, “on the Internet, there is no such thing as a lab-test" so the effect of +1 votes on ranking cannot be measured in isolation of seasonal trends, geographical differences, a sudden critical mass of users and Google's own tests of the +1 system. Factors such as tweeting the experiment to get more users involved and the natural personalization factors that come into play as a logged in Google user also may have skewed their test results.”

The experiment was conducted on the home page, a static tool page and the blog post page of the SEO Effect website. Almost 70 plusone account holders collaborated and the studies were conducted for 30 days.

It varied for the 3 pages. The Home Page witnessed increased visibility across various keywords, while the static tool page saw increased clicks and visibility. Impressions and clicks for blog page also increased.

  1. It won't be a wise idea to let +1 data to be carried to new URLs, this may lead to abuse.
  2. +1 has a positive effect on search impressions and the visibility of search results.

In Conclusion
+1 button saw an increase of 20% in the rankings and led to the increase in CTR as well.

In the coming days we expect all the SEO experts to find out more on the efficiency of Google +1.
