Looks like it’s even more important for you to get to the top now! As per a research by Compete.com titled – Seeing Between the Lines of the Search and the Click, the top result in organic listings gets 53% of clicks. This research has been done by gathering the data of results pages 2011 Q 4 and reveals that SERPs include 85% organic and 15% paid listings and of these the top result gets the maximum – a huge 53% of clicks. While the second one gets 15% clicks and the number trickles down to a mere 9% for the third listing – 6% for fourth listing and 4% to the 5th listing.
As per the analysts from Compete: “Compete also offered by way of advice for marketers, “There is a strategic battle going on in SERPs and every decision has a dramatic impact on results. Most, if not all, search marketing efforts need to prove a ROI as there is a very definite spend, whether it is SEO or SEM.” The report also adds that paid listings which are on the top also do well and get good number of the clicks- a whopping 59% of the clicks. In other words, whether organic or paid, it is important to be on the top to get those clicks!
Other details from the report include:
- 85% clicks go to 24% of ads displayed right on top.
- Bottom page ads constitute a total 15% of them and get merely 2% clicks.
