Yahoo has announced that it will be shutting down the AltaVista on July 8, 2013. AltaVista was launched in 1995 and it had a whopping 16 million documents, which made it the fastest search engine of the time capable of responding within a fraction of a second. It was founded by Louis Monier.

Adieu AltaVista!

On a personal note; AltaVista was the first search engine I started using long before Google was launched. And there was a time when we used to optimize websites for AltaVista as ranking on this particular search engine mattered a lot to clients. The major contribution of Louis Monier will be remembered always.

Adieu AltaVista!, 4.3 out of 5 based on 6 ratings
