I thought when you bought a share of stock in a company, you permanently owned a piece of that company, and no one could take it away or demand that you sell it back. Yet Freescale announced recently that it was “calling in” all its stock and that a stockholder MUST send in all their share(s).
This seems a violation of private property rights. Can they do this? What law or regulation permits this?
