In a recent thread titled, “Baidu gains approval to become a Domain Registrar … but for what purpose?” at WebmasterWorld, there is a report from zunmi.com that Baidu had received approval from China Internet Network Information Center (CNNIC) to become a domain name registrar in last December. According to that report Baidu had applied in September of last year to become a .cn registrar.

One of the users reported, “A sensible move for any large organisation – protects future plans and avoids standard industry ripoffs!”

Baidu is China's biggest independent Internet search engine and is one of strongest rivals in China for Google. Its music search tool is considered one of the best of its kind.

Forum discussion continues at WebmasterWorld.
