All those who are starting new domain or shifting content to a new domain from an old one have some important tips at SEOmoz. The new and old site should be verified and the sitemaps should be submitted. Inform about your move to Google Groups Webmaster Central forum by a post and give the reasons for it. Always watch your rankings for the content and compare the new and the old ones. If there is a decrease in the rankings than tell Google Groups with specifics and update.

The time period for getting the earlier ranking of content vary from search engine to search engine. It takes  3-6 months at Google while Yahoo! and MSN will take 1-3 months.

There are some best ways for registering a new domain also. The new domain should be registered for 10 years which is the maximum period allowed. The site should be verified with Webmaster Central and sitemap should be submitted to Google, MSN and  Yahoo! Site Submit. You can get immediate attention of the search engines if the site gets more attention and links in its initial weeks of operation. This can be done by a grand launch through media awareness ads,  linkbait, viral marketing, and more.

When you register a new domain every search engine takes different time period for indexing and giving competitive rankings. Goolge takes 20-40 days for indexing, with MSN taking 15-30 days, and Yahoo! takes 30-90 days. Google gives competitive rankings in 6-9 months, MSN takes 1-2 months and Yahoo! gives in 2-4 months.
