According to the latest Nielsen report MSN/Windows Live/Bing Search went past Yahoo! to become the No. 2 search engine in the U.S. It has garnered 13.9% share of search volume in August 2010, with an increase of 0.25% delta, from the previous month. Google like always, still holds the top place with a share of 65% of all U.S. searches. Placed at third place, Yahoo! managed only 13.1% share, with a decrease of 1.2 % share from last month.
A year-over-year comparison, shows that Google has seen a very little change in its share percentage of search, while Yahoo! has seen a small but gradual decline. It has gone from a 16.0% share to 13.1%, a relative drop of 18%. On the other hand, MSN/Windows Live/Bing’s share has seen an upward trend, with its share increasing from 10.7% to 13.9%, within a year.
After the merger of Microsoft and Yahoo!, Microsoft Bing has officially started powering part of Yahoo! searches since last month. So, if that is calculated then, Bing would represent a 26% share of all searches in the U.S.
