Like being the No 1 Search Engine was not enough, Associated Press informs that the search engine company will open petrol pumps next month.
AP informs that, “new pumps made by Gilbarco Veeder-Root are about to be deployed across America.†These specialized petrol pumps will feature:
- an internet connection, and
- a small screen will display a customised version of Google Maps
- printable directions
Though most people feel the pump app wouldn't work as 'users won't be able to put in a specific address,' Gilbarco mentioned that it could be added later. So far, 'drivers will only be able to select destinations such as hotels, restaurants and hospitals selected by the petrol station management.'
The business model says: "Participating retailers will be able to make extra money from other merchants that offer coupons on the service."
Google's Karen Roter Davis said that the service would appeal to stubborn motorists who refuse to ask people for directions. "This will be sort of a Googley, more stealthy way of getting directions."
