Create Two XML Sitemaps with Bing Sitemap Plugin!

Bing has made it very easy for webmasters to create XML sitemap for search engines. They have introduced Bing Sitemap Plugin, an open source servicer side beta program that allows users to generate not one but two sitemaps.

The Plugin generates a comprehensive sitemap of all URLs seen in server traffic and a delta sitemap of URLs that have changed recently. XML sitemaps can be generated for websites running on Apache as well as IIS.

The two kinds of sitemaps provide the site major SEO benefits. The search engines can use the full list of all URLs for deep crawls and delta sitemap for prioritizing the crawling. This can bring down the bot traffic bandwidth. The Plugin adds ‘lastmod’ values to the sitemap and also generates ‘priority’ values based on the priority of URLs.

The Plugin is easy to install and highly configurable enhancing. The sitemaps conform to XML Sitemap Protocol so they can be used by search engines other than Bing.
