One of the oldest online site directories, DMOZ has decided to remove over 1 million websites from its listings. Users held DMOZ in high regard because it manually reviews all the submissions made to the site.
The removal was first spotted by a member of webmaster forums at the DigitalPoint Forums. The statistics formerly showing at the footer of the site were 5,310,345 but the new figures showed a deduction to 4,261,763 websites.
DMOZ has also reduced the number of editors it has appointed for cleaning the directory by 10,000.
Many are surprised with the change as there no lack of communication regarding the decision to remove websites and editors. DMOZ however released a blogpost on its site announcing that it was offering a new 'Report Listing' feature that will prompt a member from the editorial team to review a listing on the basis of arguments placed forward at the time of reporting.DMOZ Cleans-up the Directory by Removing Over 1 Million Sites!,
