Facebook Introduces Updates to News Feed Algorithm!

The two updates to News Feed are Story Bumping and Last Actor. Story Bumping is the mechanism that bumps up the stories that haven’t been seen yet for being below the fold. Next time the user checks in, these stories will get prominence. Last Actor parameter factors in the last 50 engagements of a user, giving more heft to people and pages the user has recently interacted with.

Thanks to the updates, the popular stories will appear for longer on the feed improving users’ experience. They revealed that the change positively affected the number of likes, comments and share of the organic stories boosting these variables by 5%.

Changes in Facebook News Feed Algorithm have given users control on what they want to see on News Feed. Algorithm does this by determining who and what people want to connect with. When a user likes something, it indicates that they want to see more of it. Their feedback allows News Feed to prioritize the stories.
