The images are strikingly large. Fonts are different. And the new light gray background makes the News Feed and right column more prominent. A year after experimenting with a complete redesign, Facebook is once again ready to unfold an updated version of News Feed. With the overhaul, the social networking site plans to give a more steady appearance to News Feed across desktop and mobile devices platform.

The changes incorporated last year displayed larger photos and a compressed left rail. While the larger photos were appreciated, the new navigation did not gain much popularity. Following the feedback of users, the recent update seeks to offer larger images but the same navigation. Apart from this, there is a slight redesigning of the “Update Status”, “News Feed” and the “Add Photos/Videos” icon.

The social media giant announced that the tweaks are only visual updates and will be rolled out to the users in a few weeks. It will have no influence on the way content is surfaced to users or how stories are ranked. What you can expect to see is bigger images and a new font. The previous layout and navigation will remain intact.
The current design on mobile remains the same. Organic stories and advertisements will hold their original size- similar to the way images appear on mobile. Facebook confirmed that advertisers and marketers do not need to take any additional action as no changes have been brought to creative spec requirements and image aspect ratios for ads. The update has got nothing to do with buying and optimizing ads, so marketers can continue to advertise based on their objectives.
