Facebook is rolling out an update to the News Feed algorithm, which will result in less text posts to be shown from Business Pages and more to be shown from friends. The announcement was made on the Facebook Newsroom blog, where the social network also gave reason behind the update.

Facebook said that on running certain tests, it found out that there are higher chances of users posting their own text updates, specifically when they see their friends doing so. However, the same is not true in case of text updates from the business pages.

Here's an extract from the blog:

"Through testing, we have found that when people see more text status updates on Facebook they write more status updates themselves. In fact, in our initial test when we showed more status updates from friends it led to on average 9 million more status updates written each day… Over time, we noticed that this effect wasn’t true for text status updates from Pages".

Since Facebook wants to show more of the content that users want to see, it has decided to treat test posts for friends and Pages differently. The social network is also telling Page managers that they can see a decrease in the distribution of text status update, however there could be an increase in the distribution for other types of updates.

Facebook says that the best way to share links in posts after the update will be through link-share as these types of link posts will generate more engagement.
