A new study conducted by Quantcast, says that Facebook alone generates more mobile referrals to news and entertainment websites compared to all other social media sources combined together. The social networking site accounts for 24% of mobile referrals followed by Twitter at 7%.
The data shows how Facebook continues to plays a key role in helping consumers find news and entertainment content on mobile and how social media dominates over search as the largest mobile referral source for news and entertainment content. Apart from this, Facebook's in-app browser is now the largest third-party browser on iOS, accounting for 12% of browsing on iOS. This is three times the pageviews of Chrome, which is the next largest browser for iOS after Facebook.
Surprisingly, Google+ is nowhere to be seen in the list. Facebook's development as a content aggregator on mobile has led social media to transcend search as the leading source of mobile referrals to news and entertainment publishers.
