Facebook, through its blog post, today announced that it is testing its own personal digital assistant, christened as M.

Powered by artificial intelligence, the service nestled inside of Facebook’s Messenger will give answers to users queries and recommend gifts for friends, places to dine, etc.

While similar types of personal assistants service is already introduced by Apple’s Siri, Microsoft’s Cortana or Google’s Google Now, Facebook says that its M is going to take it many steps ahead.

M, David Marcus, vice president of messaging products at Facebook, said:

“Unlike other AI-based services in the market, M can actually complete tasks on your behalf. It can purchase items, get gifts delivered to your loved ones, book restaurants, travel arrangements, appointments and way more.”

Marcus though did not reveal how this Messenger platform will actually complete the task, it has just integrated payment options and the functionality, which will allow businesses to have direct chat with their consumers.
