Your browsing sessions can now be better, more relevant and related. A new free tool has been added by Google that leads you to browse useful and related web content, when you are looking up something. As of now, the tool, works on select pages. With the combination of the new chrome extension, Google Related and the Google Toolbar, you will be able to see relevant content to what you are already viewing on the web page. While visiting your favorite sites, you can now see relevant videos, maps, reviews etc.

How the new tool works?

In order to offer you related web content suggestions, Related sends the URL and other available information about the pages you visit back to Google. The recommended links and results appear in a thin bar at the bottom of your browser. It is fairly simple and provides you with links from videos, maps, news, reviews,  local business, shopping etc. So you have relevant links on what you are already reading. Here is a video about the new extension.

Apart from links to in house sites, like YouTube etc, Google is providing links to other sites like Twitter-Facebook-Wikipedia etc. For instance, if one is looking at a page about Cheese Pizza, then there will be a Google Places review- a map to the closest pizza joint- images of the pizza and the latest news on 'Cheese pizza'- only if its some latest research, they did on its popularity or harm.

The relevant recommendations will just be displayed there harmlessly, till you hover your mouse over them, and then they will pop up. Google has kept the option of +1ing open here, as if you see something interesting, you can let others know using the built-in +1 button.

New Tool likely To Become Minor Metric:

This step of Google goes a long way in personalizing the results by giving due attention to user behavior pattern. Google Related does not stand to impact Google's algorithm substantially, but it may become another minor metric- specifically in the case personalized Google results. Webmasters can use Related to their advantage by  getting a higher and better rank on other Google Services like the news-images and blogs. By optimizing media or page content on your site, you can rank better in general Google search, and you will be picked up by Related. Google search, and consequently your site will be picked up by Google Related-and will be displayed in the toolbar.
