Google's Mark Striebeck has announced on his Google + profile that, “You can now see the most recent Google+ post that the sender of the email shared with you in the Gmail people widget"

The “People” widget was introduced back in May to provide primary information of those individuals you converse with on Gmail. With the announcement of this new integration it seems like Buzz post segment will be replaced with a Google+ post. Whilst Striebeck refers to it as "a first, tiny step"; it is an indication that we are to see much more integration between Gmail and Google+ in the future.
