A recent study by SearchMetrics, shows how Google is integrating Universal Search results in its web search listings. Universal Search refers to the enhancement of organic search results with additional media from Google Images, Google Videos, Google Maps or Google News. The study reveals, in 2013 Google served Universal Search results for 81% of all searches.
Here are some key takeaways from the study:
1. Share of search results with Universal Search integration increases: The proportion of keywords with Universal Search integration increased from 75% in 2012 to 81% in 2013. The figure was 86% at the beginning of 2012 falling to 75% by the end of the year. But by December 2013 the figure again rose to 81%.
2.Videos appear for 65% of keywords: Video integration appeared for 65% of keyword searches compared to 58% in 2012. This means videos appear the most than any other element. Interestingly, 54% of those videos were from YouTube.
3.Images appear for 40% of keywords: Images appear for 40% of all keyword searches, an increase of 3% from 2012.
4.Shopping (PLAs) appears for 6% of keywords: There was 182% increase in the total number of shopping integration as well as their market share.
5. News appears for 16% of keywords: As far as the number of different news sources for news integration is concerned, an overall drop has been witnessed. But both market share and the absolute number of news integration was stable.
6.Maps appear for less than 1% of keywords: Maps are used quite often for local services.There was an increase of 3% in the number of map integration.
