Google has released a new help document that helps webmasters understand impressions, positions, and clicks in the Search Analytics Report.

The definitions in this document may change in future. Google said, “The heuristics described here—such as the visibility requirement for an item in a carousel, or the position numbering—are subject to change.”

The help document, beside the above factors, also defines how these metrics may change depending upon the type of result.
