For all those who have been curious or have posted queries in the Google Maps Help Forum asking when will update the maps and content of their homes or offices? Here's the good news! Google can now notify you whenever new images are added to an area of your interest.

Using the Follow your world application (beta), you can now register any area of the globe and Google will send you an e-mail to update you whenever there is an update for the same registered area. To check it out:

  • First, with your Google account logged in, go to the Follow your world application homepage.
  • Search for the address or latitude/longitude point of the area you are interested in.
  • Align the map to the center, between the cross hairs and press the “Select Point.”
  • Press the “Submit” button (You may change the name if you want).

Now, the next time there is any satellite or aerial imagery update of that area on Google Maps, you will get an e-mail. The Follow your world application also comes with a dashboard that allows you to manage your subscriptions anytime you want. You can also remove the alerts using the dashboard. So, get there and give it a try, and make sure you read the FAQs for more information.
