Earlier, Google had reported its queries statistics update, but this time Google has created a small landing page named Google Internet Stats on the Google UK front. The page is a bunch of statistics collected from various sources. It has been done so that the users can get insight about technology, consumer trends, media consumption and so on, get random stats, search for stats, or submit their own statistic.

Let us have a look at some bits from Google's site:

  • “There are 1.6 billion people online worldwide, representing nearly 24% of the world’s population.” (Internetworldstats.com, April 2009)
  • “According to a study done by OTX, 33% of young people (12 – 24 year olds) globally (UK, US, Germany, India and Japan) are contactable at all times, even in their sleep.” (OTX Research, March 2009)
  • “On the phenomenon of ’continuous partial attention’: over 25% of Internet users surveyed in the UK, FR, DE, IT, US, and Japan in October 2008 said they go onto the Internet at the same time as watching TV ’most of the time’.” (Ofcom, November 2008)

There other lots of stats such as “Users are 1.5 times more attentive when browsing YouTube than when watching TV.” – source: “Motorola (with Mindshare) and GM, partnered with YouTube, December 2008”. So changes in stats are ongoing process for Google.
