Google has introduced No CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA, a CAPTCHA like system that will allow people and not the automated software to access the websites, only with a single click.
reCAPTCHA protects the website from spam and abuse. The visitors won't have to compete with the robots and abusive scripts for accessing the website. Google has been prompting users to confirm that they are not robots by asking them to type distorted text into a box. However, it has now been replaced by reCAPTCHA, wherein the visitors will be directly asked whether or not they are robots.
Users will be able to easily verify that they are human without solving a CAPTCHA, on the websites with new API. A single click will confirm that they are not robot.
The CAPTCHAs are however not going to just go away. In case the risk analysis engine isn't sure that the user is a human or robot, a CAPTCHA will be prompted to increase the number of security checkpoints for confirmation.
The new API also presents new challenges that are easier for humans to use on mobile devices, particularly. In the example shared below, the CAPTCHA is based on the Computer Vision problem of image labeling. A visitor will be asked to select all the images that correspond with the clue. However, it is easier to top the photos than type a distorted text on the phone.
Adopting the New API on the Website
Early adopters like WordPress, Snapchat, Humble Bundle, and many others are seeing great results with the new API. More than 60% of the traffic on WordPress encountered the No CAPTCHA experience.
Google has also released a video named Introducing the no CAPTCHA reCAPTCHA.
