If your website's content is presented in a structured way, Google can show it more attractively and accurately to users. Moreover, Google also features the data in Knowledge Graph panels and Google Now cards to spread a word about your structured content.

Google has announced a new feature Structured Data Markup Helper that will make it even simpler to serve structured data. So, webpages can enhance their search listings by adding rich snippets to the search result page with the Structured Data Markup tool.

Structured Data Markup Helper will generate sample HTML code with microdata markup. You can download the code and use it as a guide for implementing structured data on your site. The tool supports a subset of data types, which includes all the types supported by the Data Highlighter and other types used for embedding structured data in Gmail.

Google Introduces New Feature to Make Website Data Structuring Easier!

Google has recently announced the expansion of Data Highlighter into seven new types of structured data. Data Highlighter was launched in December 2012 to help Google understand the pattern of structured data about events on a website, without editing the site's HTML. The feature can now be used to let Google understand different types of structured data on the site such as products, articles, TV episodes, local businesses, movies, software applications, and restaurants.

To use the feature, visit Webmaster Tools and select your website. Click on the Optimization link present on the lift sidebar and Data Highlighter will appear. You will then be asked to enter the URL of a structured page on the website and "tag" the key fields with mouse.

The process of tagging will take around 5 minutes for each page and around 15 minutes for consistently formatted pages. A pop up will appear giving you a chance to verify if Google understands your structured data well. If it's correct, you can "Publish" the data to Google. When your website is crawled over time, it will become eligible to display enhanced information such as prices, reviews, and ratings in the Google search results.
