Google has come out with a new experimental tool that will enable you to click on a “similar images” link present beneath the image search results. With this feature, you can see a new screen of images of same color, shape and visual elements. Although, the new tool has been released in Google Labs, it is yet not visible in the standard image search results.

Google has introduced different tools like face filter, “exact size” filter, colour picker and search suggestions for making image search easier and more precise. The latest images refinement is an addition to its series. We know that image search is tougher than text search as the true computer vision is not as developed as the content search and retrieval. The new image search introduced by Google includes many things like shape, color, texture and tagging.

We can not say that Google is the first one to introduce a similar images feature as Microsoft also added a “show similar images” option in Live Search. There are many other sites including Like.com that offer you search based results on image similarity. In this shopping site, you can visually compare all the displayed products. Tin Eye is another site where you can upload an image as a query instead of typing it in the search term.
