Structured data markup helps in better discovery of content in search results and across Google properties. Google has announced several updates that will help webmasters author & publish markup on website.

New Structured Data Testing Tool

It will better reflect how Google interprets structured data markup of a web page.

Here are the features of the tool:

  • It will show validation for all Google features powered by structured data.
  • It will provide support for markup in JSON-LD syntax and in dynamic HTML pages.
  • It will clean the display of structured data items on the page.
  • It will do Syntax highlighting of markup problems in the HTML source code

New Documentation & Simpler Policy

Based on the webmasters' feedback, Google has clarified its documentation for vocabulary supported. The new documentation will explain the markup needed to add to enable different search features. It will also have code examples in the supported syntaxes.

The policies on using structured data have also been made simple and clearer.

Expanded Support for JSON-LD

Google has extended support for schema.org vocabulary in JSON-LD syntax to new use cases: the sitelinks search box, company logos & contacts, events in Knowledge Graph, social profile links, and event rich snippets. Google has told that it is also working on expanding the support to additional markup-powered features.
