Google has officially announced the beta for Image Extensions in AdWords. The image extension allows AdWords advertisers to show relevant images along with text ads.

According to Google, one out of six searches on Google provides results with the visual content. Text ads with image extensions will reflect the increasing importance of image content amongst users worldwide.

Google Launches the Beta Version for AdWords Image Extensions!

Till date, the only way to include image content in AdWords ads was product image ad and it was limited to product results. The beta image extension will offer image options to a large number of advertisers.

There's no word from Google on the number of ads that will be able to display image results or if there will be an overlap of the results with the product listing ad results.

Google will most likely display image extensions if it determines that the searcher is looking for visual content. For example, if you will search for "luxury car designs", it might show more image extensions than results of "local car dealerships

Advertisers will have to choose the image that they want to display and submit it for a review. However, it is important that you have the rights of the image that you are submitting.

Webmasters can try the beta by filling up this form or contacting the AdWords representative.
