Google has introduced the Google News Publisher Center, allowing news publishers to easily manage their sites. Now, potential readers will be more informed about the articles they click on and news publishers will have more control over their content displayed on Google News.

You can make the following changes to the Publisher Center after verifying ownership of your site using Google Webmaster Tools:

  • You can update your news site details by changing your site name and labeling your publication with any relevant source labels including “Blog”, “Satire”, “Opinion”, etc.
  • On changing your site structure you can even update your section URLs (e.g., when you add a new section such as http://example.com/2014commonwealthgames)
  • You can also label your sections with a specific topic (e.g., “Technology” or “Politics”)

To use the new tool you need to verify your news site within Google Webmaster Tools. If your site is not verified, you can go through the process of verification.

The tool has been made available only for publishers in the U.S. for now but Google plans to introduce it in other countries as well. Google also said, it will add more features to the tool in the near future.
