Google has announced via the Official Google Blog, the launch of Google Lively. It is a '3D Virtual World' where users are able to create avatars, their avatars’ rooms, customize their avatars with their own photos and videos via YouTube and embed their Lively virtual rooms into blogs and websites.

This service looks and feels quite like Linden Lab's “Second Life”, but the rich 3D environment available in the Second Life is absent from Google Lively. However, Google Lively is still in the Google Labs, meaning it is in the Beta phase and it would then be quite certain that, not all features are available to the users as of now. Over the time, more features and enhancements are expected to show up, thus making Lively a more pleasant experience.

Here is a video for the demo of Google Lively.

Google Lively, allows the users to chat with each other in the form of 'Avatars', they see on rooms they visit or when they get visitors to their own room. There is also the option of adding the newly met avatars to a user's contacts.

Google Lively is absolutely free of cost and thus attains a huge potential for another advertising venue for Google, as it becomes more popular and viral in nature.

One at Google Lively, follow these simple steps to start using Lively:

Choose a Google Lively room:

  1. From the Room List, click the title of the chosen room.
  2. Use the tabs at the top of the page to sort rooms by most popular, most visitors, or newest.
  3. Once you've added friends or created a room, the My Rooms and Friends' Rooms tabs will also be handy.

Choose your Google Lively avatar:

  2. Click the avatar you like and choose Select Avatar.

  2. Look over each tab and choose what you want your room to look like, the permissions you want to grant visitors, and whether you'd like to play music in your room.
