Google News has recently added a new directory for custom sections that will enable the visitors to create their personalized sections. The new addition will come handy in keeping a track of the news that interests you apart from the regular news stories.
Earlier, the only method of adding a section to Google News was by performing a search and clicking on “create custom section” option present at the bottom of the search results page.
From now, when you will click on “Add a Section” link, it will open up another page that will allow you to add the pre-programmed news modules or to build your own favorite section. After the module is built, options including section title, search terms, edition and source location will appear on the screen.
- Section title is the title of your new section and will appear on the personalized Google News Homepage.
- Search terms include the list of keywords for your section. You will have to find relevant and creative keywords to get specific news & make sure to separate them with comma.
- The edition option is actually the language edition of Google News from where your news will be selected. The US edition will be different from the UK one, so be careful while choosing it.
- The source location feature is optional and will be restricted to sources from particular locations only.

Once the new section is made, it will get added on your personalized Google home page. However, Google is not offering too many options for new section creation and the ones you will get include: type a list of keywords, restrict search results to national edition or to sources from specific locations.
