Blocking CSS or Javascript on your websites may result in suboptimal search rankings. This was the gist of a new notification sent by Google through the Google Search Console.

The notification explains that blocking CSS and Javascript to Googlebot may lead to suboptimal rankings in Google as it will hinder the full understanding of their website. There is nothing new in the warning about suboptimal rankings; however, this is the first time when Google has issued Search Console notifications for this.

Post October 2014 webmaster guidelines of Google warn webmasters about blocking CSS and JS for getting optimal rankings. Now, they have made the message explicit by conveying it through the Search Console and email.

Webmasters who have received the notification must follow the instructions provided to diagnose the issue. Fetch and render tool within the Search Console enables the human user to view a website as Google sees it.
