Google has shifted beyond the good old keyword spellchecker suggestions and now also offers URL spellchecking.

For example: If you type www.unofficialseoblog.net, it returns the message:

“No results found for www.unofficialseoblog.net.

However, there are results from websites with similar addresses:

Unofficial SEO Blog- Search engine information much before its …

Search engine information much before its official! We are committed to bring you news from the search engine and SEO world even as they happen.

www.unofficialseoblog.com/ – 37k – Cached – Similar pages

Other suggestions:

  • Search for unofficial seo blog net
  • Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
  • Try another domain name (e.g. .com .net).”

First to notice this was Ionut Alex Chitu who explained the purpose of this new feature as:

“Many people don't know the difference between Google's search box and the browser's address bar. This confusion is accentuated by the fact that the address bar is also a search box in some cases and Google, like most search engines, steal the focus from the address bar.”
