Does it scare you that typing your residential phone number in the Google Search bar (not to be confused with the Google Toolbar) reveals your name and residential details with a map (via Google Map) of your home through a reverse lookup! It was common knowledge that the World Wide Web was a storehouse of fascinating information but this edges towards the scary, with identity thefts, stalkers and wrong-doers all around.

Thankfully, Google themselves have come up with a form available at Google Phonebook Name Removal which removes your precious data within 48 hours. Removing your business numbers is also possible. However, once removed it will not be added back again. Once again, save your privacy!

This post caught my eye because I used to find phonebook listings of myself when Googling. However, lately I cannot get those phone results to come up.

I thought about removing myself today but when I did a quick search on my phone numbers, neither of them had my information.

This is interesting because I’ve had these phone numbers for exactly 2 years now. I can’t believe that Google is so far behind in this area when they’ve been talking about local search and the need to focus on users needs in their local area more closely.

It’s pretty sad when Qwest is updated faster than Google.

I couldn’t agree much.
