Google has updated the Google+ Hangouts, which will now let iOS app in America make free telephone calls to any phone in the US and Canada. Kate Cushing of Google Android Team unveiled the new feature in a post on his Google+ page. The new feature is a part of the Google+ mobile app upgrade package for iOS.

Free Calls

In addition to making phone calls, the updated application can also be used to make international calls. However, there will be fees for the calls that are using voice call credits. Users can purchase credits from Google.

Cushing said that Google Voice users can also use the iOS app to make or receive calls. While the outgoing calls will come from a Google Voice number, users can answer the incoming Voice calls from Google+ Hangouts.

Another change integrated is that the music playing on the user's device will be no longer stopped from playing during an incoming call. Google+ Hangouts will temporarily duck the music and crank the volume back up.

Users can send or receive animated GIFs, which will play in-line automatically. Users can also view other people who are online and reachable in Google+ Hangouts. Easier browsing of contacts, inclusion of Hangouts invites, and other updated that were a part of Android version of Google+ Hangouts app have been added to the iOS app.

You can download the new version 1.3 of the iOS Google+ Hangouts for free from the Apple Store.
