In the coming days Google will provide medical information and related conditions on medical symptoms searches. For individual symptoms like “headache”, an overview description and self treatment options will also be provided, along with the advise if visit to a doctor is needed.

Google said, “By doing this, our goal is to help you to navigate and explore health conditions related to your symptoms, and quickly get to the point where you can do more in-depth research on the web or talk to a health professional.”

The list for symptoms is created by looking for health conditions mentioned in web results, which is further checked against high quality medical information collected from doctors for Google’s Knowledge Graph.

“We worked with a team of medical doctors to carefully review the individual symptom information, and experts at Harvard Medical School and Mayo Clinic evaluated related conditions for a representative sample of searches to help improve the lists we show.”
This update will be rolled out over the coming days in the US initially. Google, however, said that symptom search is only for information purpose and a doctor should always be consulted for medical advice.
