Google Directory

Google's dropping of one its first services, Google Directory is something that came out of the blue.

Google Directory was the second service rolled out by Google way back in 2000. After over a decade long run of service it provided, it is no longer there!

Log on to the Google Directory's home page and you will read the following:

“Google Directory is no longer available.

We believe that Web Search is the fastest way to find the information you need on the web.

If you prefer to browse a directory of the web, visit the Open Directory Project at dmoz.org”

Google Directory is No More!

Until Yesterday, Google Directory looked like:

Google Directory Old Layout

We all know it was a dmoz.org clone but with a PageRank for all the sites showing next to them.

Google is now asking people to either use the Web Search or if you still prefer to browse through the directories, use Open Directory instead.

Whilst it will be missed by some, it was not one of the most popular of Google's services. So probably, no tears there!
