According to the Google Trends data from March, search queries that contain a location “query” such as nearby or near me have doubled in the past year. It has also been traced that 80% of these searches come from mobile devices.

Google when rolled out its new mobile ad product, released this data with it. The new ad product is specifically designed around these type of queries. The new Nearby Business listings leave the typical copy that was shown in text ads behind and feature buttons to get directions or click to call the business. Google’s Chief business officer Omid Kordestani repeated the stat during an interview at Re/Code’s Code Conference. Kordestani also confirmed that a buy button will soon start appearing on select search ads.
