Comment spammers are too much active . I use twenty theme and I used to allow comments . After some days , I followed some people commenting randomly and they were not content relevant. I banned the IP address from where the comments were coming . But doing so means sometimes blocking some unique visitors too . After that I blocked the comment feature totally . But the problem is that it closes inter action with visitors .So ,the process is not good to apply. Now , I'm using Disqas commenting feature and I have been able to kick the unethical commentators off my site. Yes ,you are right . Comment spammers are too much active .
