The latest news for the existing GrandCentral users is that now they can exclusively use the services of the newly launched Google Voice service before others could try their hands on it.

According to the Official Google blog,

"We've just started to release a preview of Google Voice, an application that helps you better manage your voice communications. Google Voice will be available initially to existing users of GrandCentral, a service we acquired in July of 2007."

Here are some of its features :

  • Call screening – Announce and screen callers
  • Listen in – Listen before taking a call
  • Block calls – Keep unwanted callers at bay
  • SMS – Send, receive, and store SMS
  • Place calls – Call US numbers for free
  • Taking calls – Answer on any of your phones
  • Phone routing – Phones ring based on who calls
  • Forwarding phones – Add phones and decide which ring

"As you may know, GrandCentral offers many great features, including a single number to ring your home, work, and mobile phones, a central voicemail inbox that you could access on the web, and the ability to screen calls by listening in live as callers leave a voicemail." – Craig Walker, Vincent Paquet, and Wesley Chan, Google Voice Product Managers
