Webmaster Tools is riding on a wave of change. They started off with spring cleaning in April and now have made changes to the navigation, dashboard, and the home page.

Google Webmaster Tools Revamps Navigation - Dashboard and Homepage

The new and ‘improved’ navigation structure has the following groups:

  • Configuration (Things configured and not changed very often)
  • Health (to check on the general functionality)
  • Traffic (to understand your site’s performance in search, study links and other data about your site)
  • Optimization Configuration (to find ideas for bettering your site’s search placements)

Some features have been renamed and the new Dashboard has messages listed as recent, important and prioritized. The Dashboard is home to three widgets: Crawl Errors, Search Queries and Sitemaps. These in turn represent a different navigation group: Health, Traffic and Optimization (respectively).

Webmasters monitoring a large number of sites can opt for seeing their site-list in a 'Compact' layout.
