Google News has always been very strict in maintaining a set of guidelines for the sources it displays in the "In the News" section. But now, as noticed by Search Engine Land it seems that Google has made serious changes in its standards.

Since a few days, surprising results are showing up in the news section of the search results. Reddit and many other non traditional results are appearing in the news results.

A Google spokesperson told Search Engine Land that they will pull out information from all across the web so that a diverse range of voices are presented to ensure that users get the answers that they are looking for. Also said was that they will strive hard to give users the best possible answer to their question in the form of a blog, a video, a social media post or a news article.

Sources like Reddit are not appearing in Google News currently, but they are prominently visible on the "In the News" section of search results. It is still not clear whether Google will be expanding its access to Google News or not.

Google News guidelines follow a very rigid set of standards for a website to meet in order to be a part of Google News. Their general news guidelines include News content, Authority, Journalistic standards, Accountability as well as Readability.

When the search engine giant provides information about its news quality guidelines, it says:

"Publishers who strive to uphold the basic principles of good journalism will provide a much better user experience and consequently likely enjoy better ranking than those who spend their time looking for loopholes they can exploit."

Will Google be making serious changes to its news standard guidelines, if yes then what are the expected changes? Well, only Google can tell.
