Google has rolled out an improvement that will replace the URL in some of the search results with a hierarchy that will show you the exact location of the page on the site. With the new display, searchers will be able to get more valuable context and new navigation options.

The basic idea behind introducing new site hierarchies display is:

There are some web addresses that help you in understanding the structure of the website and how a page comes in the hierarchy of the site. With the new feature, users will get more valuable context that will help them in deciding if they want to click on the result or not.

The Google team has said that all the information in the hierarchy comes from analyzing destination web pages. The URLs appearing with search results are actually standard navigational tools called "breadcrubms”. Webmasters frequently show these tools on their site for helping the users to navigate. The team has analyzed the site breadcrumbs to improve the search snippet only for a small percentage of search results till now. But, the team is hoping to expand it in future.
