In an attempt to find out how you can gain more engagement from Facebook posts, the marketing analytics platform, TrackMaven, conducted a study on more than 5000 Facebook pages and about 1.6 million posts. The research, published in "The Marketing Maven's Guide to Facebook" shows, although the frequency of posts on weekends was much lower than on the weekdays, the average engagement rate for Facebook posts was comparatively higher on Saturdays and Sundays.
Let’s find out how different factors affect the engagement rate of Facebook posts:
Effectiveness by Day of Week: The study shows, posts published on Sundays get the maximum engagement, with an average of 2.72 interactions per post. The average high from Monday to Friday was 2.27 interactions per post. This means, posting on a Sunday is 25% more effective than posting on any other day.
By Time: Most businesses post on Facebook between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (EST), but the highest engagement takes place between 5 p.m. and 1 am, with 2.49 interactions per post. Certainly, more people are using Facebook after working hours.
Use of Images: The research shows, posts with images experienced an average of 2.35 interactions per post, compared to the 1.71 interactions per post for posts without images.
Use of Hashtags: A majority (83.93%) of posts do not contain hashtags. Even if a post includes hashtag, it does not include more than one. However, hashtags increase the engagement rate.
Not more than one out of every six posts contain hashtags, but posts with hashtags see 60% more engagement than others. Posts using seven hashtags experienced exceptional engagement from audience according to the study.Learn when is the Most Effective Time for Your Business to Post on Facebook with TrackMaven’s Latest Data!,
