Google has announced the introduction of a new version of the Content API for Google Shopping, enabling you to programmatically upload product listings and make your products easily discoverable. Content API for Google Shopping was launched back in 2010, to allow marketers upload their product data to Google and update the frequently changing features like price and availability. Since then, no update has been made to this programmatic interface. The version 2 of the Content API for Google Shopping gives you more details about the data quality of each item and helps you keep your data fresh.
Some of the features of the updated version are:
- Gives you item level data quality information. It allows you to see if an item was rejected because a particular landing page URL on your website isn’t working on the mobile devices. It also lets you know if your unique product identifiers are inaccurate.
- Allows you to quickly update the price and availability of multiple listings. Customers can have the latest information on price and availability before they click through your site.
- Gives you more choices of programming languages and supported data formats.
The current version of the API will be available till February 2015. Users can however adopt the recent version as soon as possible to take advantage of the new features at the earliest.
