Google has made several changes in the algorithm and come up with Penguin & Panda updates to counter spam. But, many are curious to know about the measures being taken by Google to fight spam in non-US markets such as India?
Matt Cutts in the latest Webmaster video is seen giving an answer to one such question.
“Is the webspam team taking the same measures to counter spam in the international markets like India, like they do in the US market? It just seems like there are a lot of junk sites that come up in the first page of results, when searching on google.co.in”.
Cutts said, “Remember the web spam team has the engineers who work on algorithmic spam and manual web spam, with both working on spam around the world. At Google India, we want the algorithms whether they be link spam or keyword stuffing to work in every language as much as can. So, we do try to make sure, to a degree we internationalize those algorithms. We have people in Hyderabad, who are firing spam not only in English or .com domains but in .in as well. We have people to fight spam in 40 different languages based around the world”.
He added, “I would agree that probably English spam in the U.S. on .com definitely gets lot of attention because not every engineer can speak French or German or a particular language. But, it is the case that we put a lot of work in to try to make sure that we do internationalize those. Definitely, if you see the results that are sub-optimal or bad, either do a spam report or show up in the webmaster forum and drop a notice there. Feel free to send a tweet, that's a sort of thing we are interested in and we would like to make sure that we do better on. We also take that feedback and we try to use it to prove future iterations of our web ranking algorithms as well”.Matt Cutts on How Does Webspam Team Fights Spam in Non-US Market? ,
