ttorney General Alberto Gonzales has asked several Internet companies, including Microsoft,  AOL and Google to retain records of communications for aiding in their prosecution of terrorists and child predators. They requested detailed lists of emails sent and received. They also asked that web search information be kept for a reasonable length of time. The content of emails aren't part of this request, since the proper legal channels through which such information can be sought is by subpoena only.
