Pinterest has revealed how it will be making money from online photo pinning site, promoted pins. The scrapbooks that are shared across Pinterest have made the pinboards a popular destination for socializing. This specifically revolves around products. Moreover, Pinterest has become a popular spot for brands like Lowe's who prefer to build a merchandising vehicle presence to get people into online stores.
CEO, Ben Silbermann of Pinterest wrote, "We're going to start experimenting with promoting certain pins from a select group of businesses."
Pinterest has said that it won't explore banner or pop-up ads and the pins that are promoted will be clearly marked. The promoted pins will initially be served into search results and later into member's feeds, as per their relevancy to interests.
