Twitter has rolled out a new option that will let profiles choose if they want people to directly message them. Earlier, the settings allowed direct messaging only if a user was following you. Twitter will be rolling out the feature gradually to users.

Here's how the option appears in the Profile Settings:

Profiles can Now Let Anyone Directly Message Them on Twitter!

The new feature is going to benefit companies who have Twitter promotion as a part of their customer strategy. On the other hand, allowing people to directly message you can invite lot of spam to your Twitter account.

Speculations are also around that Twitter might be moving towards introducing an instant messaging platform that will allow users to have real-time private conversations. However, it cannot be denied that the new feature is going to be really useful for businesses.
