The latest in Google penalty list is Rap Genius, a provocative music lyrics website. Google has recently punished the website after finding out that it went against Google rules to game search engine rankings.

Rap Genius provides detailed annotations for hip-hop songs. It was on Thursday, i.e. 26 December that reports of Rap Genius being removed from top search engine rankings started coming. The website was not showing in top search Google results for rap lyric or even the search by the name of the company.

The lyrics website has sent out an open apology letter where it has admitted that it tried to improve search engine rankings by giving exposure to bloggers on the company's Twitter account in order to earn links back to the website. Rap Genius had received $15 million funding from Andreessen Horowitz and the Google penalty is expected to severely affect the website because a huge percent of the Internet traffic is controlled by Google.
