The latest Incremental Clicks Impact of Mobile Search Advertising analysis revealed that organic mobile search clicks weren’t able to replace 88% of the ad clicks received from mobile search. 

Users are often presented with two choices, when they make a search on their device. They can either click on the ads appearing on the page or click on the organic search results. And that's one reason behind website owners striving hard to maintain a balance between organic search and paid search to drive web traffic. 

The "Search Ads Pause" analysis released by Google in 2011 showed that organic clicks were unable to replace 89% of the traffic generated by search ads. Since smartphones have become increasingly important, Google conducted the same analysis for mobile devices to find how the importance of mobile search ads in driving traffic. The study was conducted between March 2012 – April 2013 across 327 US-based mobile advertising accounts from the 12 major industries. The research focused on search terms, which had organic listings on the first page. Similar to previous study, Google found out that 88% clicks generated by mobile ads couldn’t be replaced with organic clicks.

Google obtained high results across all the 12 major verticals, which stated:

  • 97% of mobile ads clicks are related to local advertisers and classifieds
  • 88% are incremental for retail advertisers
  • 90% are incremental for technology brands

The study reveals that today's consumer uses mobile search for connecting with businesses across different industries. He/she also trusts organic as well as paid results to accomplish the search goal.
