Technorati has introduced an Authority Score in their blog search results. It was particularly noticed as people logged on to read Technorati's list of Popular 100. The top 5 blogs include:

Does Authority number denote the number of sites that link to the blog? Technorati doesn't say whether the Authority score is based on links. Nor does it even say what generates higher rankings on the Authority Score. Their own blog hasn't mentioned details.

IMO, Technorati should weigh the Authority of inbound links in their calculation of the blog Authority index.
